( Using Nasal Route for Therapeutic)

  • According to Traditional Ayurveda -Pathway to inner consciousness is supposed to channel through Nose.

  • Different medicinal herbs are introduced for therapeutic purposes using nasal route

Common areas which get affected by introduction of things through Nasal route

  1. Mind

  2. Prana Vata

  3. Sadhaka Pitta

  4. Tarpaka Kapha

  5. Majja Dhatu

So, as we can see Nasya has been described to have very good and deep effect on some very important areas in our Body and Mind and Energy.

There are five different ways Nasya is traditionally administered:

  1. Cleansing ( Virechana) : Use of Powders etc

  2. Nutritive ( Bruhana) : For Vata – use of Ghee, Oils etc

  3. Sedative ( Shamana) : Use of
    Medicated things

  4. Navana : For Pitta , Pitta-Kapha

  5. Marshya : Using one’s finger to apply ghee or oil in Nose. ( Prati Marshya : Means done daily)

Nasya Is supposed to be Helpful:

  • Sinus pain

  • Headaches and Migraine

  • Improve Libido

  • Strengthen Facial Region

  • Strengthen area around base of neck, collar bone

  • Brain : especially growths SOL

Nasya to be avoided :

  • Before or after bath and Shower

  • When with full stomach

  • When stomach is upset

  • After Physical exercise

  • After or around Neti or Nasal irrigation

  • When Hungry

  • When Thirsty

  • Menstruation

  • Strong emotional States or grief

  • When following a detox or cleansing

  • Enema

  • Purgation

  • Fever

Best time for Nasya :

  • On empty Stomach

  • Usually recommended before
    Shower

  • Before Exercise

Procedure :

  • Lie on Back

  • Tilt Head Backwards

  • Put 2-5 drops of indicated thing in each nostril

  • Sniff deeply

  • Stay in place to let it penetrate locally
